The battalion was first formed on March 9, 1940 in Mährisch Weißkirchen in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 335 was created by renaming the Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 33 (Landwehr). The battalion was subordinate to Division 165 and provided the replacement for the 205th Infantry Division. The battalion was renamed again on March 30, 1940, this time to Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 353, but on the same March 30, 1940, a new Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 335 was formed in Mährisch Weißkirchen, also in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The new battalion was created by renaming the Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 353, which was originally the Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 40 (Landwehr). The battalion was also subordinate to Division 165 and was the replacement for the 205th Infantry Division. On August 22, 1940, the battalion was transferred back to Konstanz in Wehrkreis V. From July 12, 1941, the battalion was subordinate to Division 155. From May 10, 1942, the battalion was subordinate to Division 405. On September 22, 1942, the battalion in Constance was divided into an infantry replacement battalion 335 and an infantry training battalion 335. Both battalions were transferred to Mühlhausen in Alsace on October 10, 1942. The replacement battalion was in November 1942
stationed in the Hermann Göring barracks in Mühlhausen. Both battalions were renamed Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 335 and Grenadier-Ausbildungs-Bataillon 335 on November 2, 1942. On April 10, 1943, both battalions were united to form the Grenadier Replacement and Training Battalion 335. On November 20, 1943, the battalion was sent to the Radom training area to form the 359th Infantry Division. The staff formed the staff of the I. Battalion of the Grenadier Regiment 949. The companies came to the Divisional Fusilier Battalion 359. The replacement battalion was newly formed. It was then used in September 1944 to form the Valkyrie-Kampfgruppe D/V.
